Description
-----------
Based on a Ubuntu 18.04 design concept. Works with GNOME 3.20 and up.

Wallpaper is included. More preview images are at the GitHub page since GL has an image limit.

Extensions
----------
Dash to dock. Enable panel mode and position it on the left.
Dynamic Panel Transparency. The non-dark variant comes with a semi-transparent panel. In an ideal world, the top panel would become completely black when a window is maximized but we don't live in that world yet. I highly recommend this extension.

V2.3 1 year ago

Fixes a couple of issues. Some small changes for 3.26 like removing the gradient effect in Ubuntu 17.10 (thanks to kfstudio).

That'll require some tinkering. You'll need to enable and go into the Dynamic Panel Transparency extension's settings:

Under Foreground: enable custom text colouring. Tick "Use when a window is maximized."

Set Primary Colour to #FFFFFF and Secondary Colour to #606060. Now click "Background" and tick "Enable custom panel color" and change panel colour to #F4F4F4.

Now after you do this the app menu icon will be a bit screwy if you have it on so you'll need to go into the gnome-shell.css file, look for ".app-menu-icon" and underneath that there should be a line with "color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.7;", change that to "color: #606060;"

Hi, thank you for your work, I can only find two issues with v1.5: http://imgur.com/DnptvqJ

The hard to read text problem is still present in the Preferences dialog of gnome-terminal (white text on white background). And, if you look in the top right of LibreOffice, the two Xs look strange. Don't sweat the second problem though... LibreOffice always looks at least somewhat bad with every custom theme I've used.

I've never actually used LibreOffice. Is that close button supposed to be there? Either way, I've fixed both of those issues.

Report

Thank you!

The second X button seems to appear when only one LibreOffice window is open, at least on Ubuntu 17.04. When I open a second LibreOffice window, the second X button disappears. The styling still looks a bit strange, but I don't care, LibreOffice never looks good.

This is a really nice theme! Great work! I like the purple much better but that was an easy fix so thanks.

Congratulations, this looks great! This made me feel at ease when I ultimately have to transition to gnome. Please dont overdo it, 1,5 perfect in the way the colors show! The black is perfect!

Just want to say thanks again for all the work you've put into this theme over the last few days. It's come a long way since the first version and I think I've used each version you've uploaded. XD The result is really gorgeous.

Awesome work man ! Keep doing it ! Just a sugestion, is there a way to integrate a icon pack with the native ubuntu folder icons ? I really hope canonical use this on 18.04

Run: "sudo apt install humanity-icon-theme" in a terminal. Select Humanity as the icon pack in Tweak Tool.
Then run "sudo gedit /usr/share/icons/Humanity/index.theme"

There'll be a line with "Inherits=Adwaita, hicolor", add the name of the icon pack you want to use before Adwaita. You can do that with any icon theme. Humanity will fallback on those icon packs in that order in case it doesn't have an icon for something.

Hmm, text seems a bit too dark in 1.3 compared to the previous versions.

Where?

Report

Baemir

Well, everywhere. The default font color seemed to be a dark gray in previous versions, but seems like it's pitch black now?

Report

CopperBezel

As much as I liked the sedate effect of the gray text, I had trouble at times identifying inactive items vs. active ones. I think this more standard nearly-black text is a bit more practical even if it's not quite as unique!

Report

Baemir

If I was looking for practicality I would be using HighContrast, lol. You usually don't want to use very light and very dark tones in the same theme because it's quite simply not pretty. It's OK if he wants to keep the darker text but I'd like to know which variable I should edit in the .css to make it lighter.

Report

CopperBezel

Fair enough. I don't know, the only text / fg color I can find in the .css is at the very end, and it's the #312830 used in the buttons and dropdown menus and so on, not the main window text color.

Report

Some of the colors are screwed up in 1.3, making some text illegible: https://imgur.com/a/xWPYL

Also, I agree with other commenters that the new window headers are way too fat and the X button in 1.2 looked better, being a bit smaller.

Otherwise, wonderful work!

Uhh. I actually didn't mean to upload that. I was about to until I noticed the headerbar problem in Chrome. Uploaded files get uploaded even if you don't hit save, apparently. I'm really sorry! I'm working on all the problems now.

Looks awesome! I have a feature request: can you set the font to ubuntu? Also; the resolution of the "ubuntu" icon seems to be lower than my other icons..

Report

The default font for the shell is Ubuntu, you'll need to set everything else to use the Ubuntu font using tweak tool. I'm using an svg file for the ubuntu logo now, that should be cleared up.

VERY nice theme indeed! One hopes Canonical have seen this and are taking note. I would however agree with giffarus below on some details. I'm glad you've made the font heavier and easier to read on 1.3, but I do agree the window bar is now too fat and I also preferred the previous buttons which offered the user better feedback when hovering over them etc., and are not as big as 1.3. All told though, amazing work and a very speedy response to the move to GNOME!

hum here is my review from united 1.2 : the style is shiny, the colors are pretty, I love the orange and white and I like the integration that make gnome looks so pure. A little dislike for the grey touches in nautilus or tweak tool that make it a bit dirty but nothing bad at all.

But there's a but for this 1.3 for me because i was in love with the 1.2 : the top bar of software is fat, the incoming of purple isn't as pretty as the orange was, close minimize max buttons are bigger (I dislike but it's all personal) and because I love the use af all white, the presence of grey isn't as beautiful as it was. therefore it's all personal, the theme is really good, but I prefer the previous version. Also, I'm ok with the dark theme ;) thanks for ur work

V2.3 1 year ago

Fixes a couple of issues. Some small changes for 3.26 like removing the gradient effect in Ubuntu 17.10 (thanks to kfstudio).

V2.2 1 year ago

Bug fixes.
Compact versions.
Debian + Antergos variants.
GTK3 check and radio buttons are done through CSS instead of with external assets.
Toolbuttons don't have the 3D effect applied to them anymore.
Unity support (only Ubuntu and Ubuntu-Alt variants)
Shell overview is darker with a slight gradients.
New window buttons.

V2.1.3 1 year ago

More mundane buttons to avoid rogue white on white issues. Both buttons and entry fields inherit more of Suru to balance out their dumbing down.

Fixed some background color inconsistencies and numerous GTK2 issues.

The slider and terminal closer resembles Unity 8's. In the former's case, it looked too similar to Material Design's.

Checkboxes and radio buttons are now smaller.

Shell OSD elements now use a border image which lets them stand out a bit more.

The list view has soft borders between items for easier differentiation.

If using the transparent Shell theme and desktop icons were enabled, there would be a white line above the panel, this has been removed and desktop icon text is now white.

V2.1.2 1 year ago

Tweaked transparency for visibility reasons.
Cleared up issue with the Shell crashing when opening a couple apps. Source was the background color to indicate running status in dash to dock so they've been removed. Sorry about that.

V2.1.1 1 year ago

Tweaked the palette to match the Ubuntu/Suru palette.
The notification dot in the Shell theme matches the variant's primary color (orange for Ubuntu, blue for Fedora, etc).
Changed the look of the window shadow.
Overshoot/undershoot coloring is less prominent.
Thicker Shell calendar arrows.
Increased the size of checkboxes and moved over to new Ambiance-based check and radio buttons for irony's sake and also because Unity 8's assets are too thin and won't look good in case.

Fixes:
Selected progressbars were all white.
A couple small hover/active state styling inconsistencies.
Windows would pop when changing from focus from one to the other.
The Shell's rounded buttons would have a black background color behind them.
Dialog boxes had no shadow behind them.
GTK2 separators were the same color as the background. (W O W!)

V2.0.1 2 years ago

Finetuning, couple fixes (notebook tabs would sometimes be in the primary color for some reason) and variants for everybody. Previews are on the github page since there's just too many images right now. If you want a more agnostic launcher logo, for now, you can grab a couple logos in the launcher icons archive and do some renaming. I don't know how to do anything except for loops in bash right now so no script yet, sorry.

V2.0 2 years ago

The GTK2 and GTK3 themes have been overhauled and the Shell theme has gotten a couple of tweaks but nothing as extensive as the GTK themes. The purple buttons have regrettably been scrapped because of a dead end problem with Firefox, but hey, no more grey text on purple buttons at least! A Fedora variant is now included.

V1.8 to V1.9 2 years ago

Bug fixes and coherency improvements.

V1.8 2 years ago

A whole lot of cleaning up was done. The colours are a lot more balanced, readability and focus has been upped, etc. Don't feel bad about reporting bugs!

V1.7.6 2 years ago

Blaze it edition. Couple fixes for the Light theme, more than just a couple for the dark and darker themes (I've been compiling it without the fixes partial the whole time). No luck with LibreOffice outside of that one fix. Source files are now on GitHub. Please don't laugh at my disorganization.

V1.7.4 2 years ago

Light and Mixed shell variants (there are too much to explain what's different now) GTK3 clean up, assets have been tidied up yet again and a couple button subtypes had some inherited-by-accident rules (you might have noticed the radio and checkboxes looking off along with the color swatch just looking plain weird).

An almost perfect theme, if you ask me! Very stylish and clean. I especially like the wide, but fitting use of transparency. BUT: Why on earth gray fonts on the desktop (I enabled files on desktop in Tweak Tool)? I can (barely) tolerate them in the Nautilus sidebar, but gray fonts on the desktop hurt my eyes. The default white would be great here.
