Description:

PRO-Dark-XFCE-Edition

Made by paulxfce

A clear and easy-on-the-eyes theme that is meant for those who use the XFCE/Gnome-desktop professionally on a daily basis. The focus in this theme is compatibility: GTK-2 applications and GTK-3 applications look virtually the same. Libre-office, Scribus, Evolution, Geary, Planner, GnuCash, LaTeXila, Geany, the Gimp, Inkscape,...

Chrome, firefox, Web and Opera have no issues with this theme.

About the looks, you will notice some Elementary-theme, Arc-theme and Gnome-OSX, in a darker version.
This is a XFCE-interpretation of my gnome-theme PRO-Dark-GTK.

IMPORTANT:

There are two versions available:
PRO-Dark-XFCE-Edition-I is the older XFCE-D-PRO which works fine with thunar below version 1.8

PRO-Dark-XFCE-Edition-II is the newer up-to-date version that requires Thunar 1.8 or above

This theme uses GTK 3.20+ for the gtk3-build-apps; GTK2-apps and QT-apps look virtually the same.

How to install:

Download the theme,

Just copy the extracted file to a '.themes'-folder you make in your home directory.
Then use Appearance/ Window-manager to select the Style.
LOG OUT AND BACK IN for changes to take full effect !

The standard XFWM-windowmanager is used as the compositor, With the following specific settings in the Window Manager Tweaks:
- display compositing enabled.
- Synchronize drawing to the vertical blank enabled.
- Show shadows under dock windows enabled.
Opacity of popup windows is set more to the left (more transparency): this gives the translucency under the drop down-menu's. You can move the layer more to the left for more transparency.

Comments

Please comment if you see things broken, or want differently. I will post fixes as soon as possible.

Not sure when this happen but the left panel (location) has lost its colour in Manjaro Xfce. It is just white instead of grey now. Was there any change ?

I have check it out in VB with an older version. The change happen with the new Thunar manager (1.8 now, was 1.6 before). The theme doesn't look the same anymore with that. Still since Manjaro xfce is the most popular distro now, it may be a good idea to fix it.

Thunar, and a bunch of other now switched totally to GTK3, so my theme is outdated. This requires some size-able adjustments to the theme, so give me some time...

Exactly, they are migrating in bunch to GTK3 (manjaro). Not your fault. I hope you can follow soon because your themes are the best for XFCE, hands down. Thanks.

Switching to gtk3 is interesting themingwise: this is what I came up with for thunar:

I have not found a solution for the sidebar though

Very beautiful theme, very polished and consistent across all apps. I like the 3D look, rather than the flat themes common today. XFCE should really implement a couple of the great themes on this websites by default. The defaults all look very out-dated. Big thumbs up for this one!

Thanks, yes, there are no modern themes for xfce, or lack the polish...

Hey Paul, just so you know, I signed up in this site just to be able to praise your excellent work on XFCE and Gnome themes and maybe also because I wanted to ask you some changes for XFCE-D-PRO theme, I would like to ask you to make a version with a clear differentiation between focused and unfocused windows, maybe through the window's title text grayed out or desaturated window control buttons, I leave it to your judgement; finally, I would like to ask you as well to add a dark border to the windows in order to discern each window's area. Thank you very much in advance and for your attention and please keep up the great work.

Hi Paul, the theme is great. I'm running Xubuntu 16.04 and everything works great, but one thing: scrollbars in Firefox and Thunderbird aren't visible. I can post the screenshots somewhere if it helps you. Thanks again for great work!

Hi Paul,
I am running Xubuntu 18.04 on my Laptop.
I downloaded your theme, extract it and copied it to /usr/share/themes.
After I selected your theme and logged out and back in I noticed that the titlebar of any window isn't themed.
Is there a way to fix this? TIA
