Nextwaita
A theme developed by PaulXFCE

NEW: FULLY SCALABLE THEME !
Read more (further down)...

Nextwaita is based on a snapshot of the newly developed New Adwaita (coming out with Gnome 3.32) (GGPL v2)

While I appreciate the effort of the Gnome-team into developing a new default theme, there are a number of issues. One of the longstanding issue is the size of the buttons and the header-bars. Adwaita is multipurpose: it needs to be big enough for touch-enabled screens, and at the same time usable enough to be used in a desktop environment.

Nextwaita is desktop-orientated. For that reason the header-bar is reduced, the buttons overall have less padding, the tabs have smaller footprint.

Nextwaita uses a gray-scaled color-pallet, instead of the brownish colors used throughout the new adwaita theme.

The switch-buttons that the present snapshot of new Adwaita provide, are not yet developed bug-free. So I provided a slightly different version, that addresses these issues.

Nextwaita uses different radio- and check-buttons, provides different sliders; and all this without the need for external graphics.

For the moment the Gnome-Development-team has not provided a GTK2-component for their team.

Nextwaita supports GTK2, that works seems-less with GTK3.

New:[ FULLY SCALABLE!

A major (personal) achievement is the creation of a gradually scalable version of Nextwaita.

By using 'Gnome-Tweaks/Fonts/Scalable factor' you can change the scale of the interface:

Setting this scale to 0.92 (for example) will scale the theme down to a level suitable for low resolution screens.
Setting the scale to 1.35 (for example) will scale the theme up to a level suitable for high resolution-screens.

This theme will change its buttons, radio-and checkbuttons, sliders, switches, and general padding accordingly.
While gnome already tries to scale, this theme does it better. This is done by using (relative) REM in some places instead of (fixed) pixels.

Carefull: Be carefull in setting the scalable factor, as it can get you into serious trouble.

This theme works best within these parameters:

0.92 - 1.35

It is not good at scale 2.00 (because the button-icons do not scale)

No graphics!

This GTK3-theme also does not need any additional png's or SVG's (which usually comes in the assets-file). It is fully written in CSS.

New:

As requested, there is now a trimmed version for those with low screen-resolution:
Smaller header-bar, title-bar, buttons, radio-and-check-buttons ;reduced menu-sizes and sidebar-items.

Nextwaita-Low-Res and Nextwaita-Low-Res-3.30

New:

The Dark-theme has had a complete make-over.
The original New Adwaita -dark-theme is - in my opinion - a bit to dark, and the font-color to light.
So it is a strain to your eyes, if you use it for a long period of time.
So I made the theme less dark and the font darker. I Changed the radio- and check-buttons, slider and markers also.

The new dark theme is now set as standard for the 1.3 release.
And it also available as a separate download (Nextwaita-Dark), both in the normal, as the 3.30 version.

Please try before commenting.

This theme is meant to be simple, cool, easy to the eyes, and above all consequent in its design. Meant for day-to-day use.

So, desktop-users, this is for you !

How to install:

There are 10 versions available:

-Nextwaita-SCALE
-Nextwaita-3.30-SCALE
-Nextwaita-dark-SCALE
-Nextwaita-dark-3.30-SCALE
-Nextwaita
-Nextwaita 3.30
-Nextwaita-Low-Res
-Nextwaita-Low-Res-3.30
-Nextwaita-Dark
-Nextwaita-Dark-3.30

Ubuntu-users should stick to the first version. Others who have installed Gnome 3.30 choose the 3.30 versions.

just untar the downloaded file and drop it in the '.themes'-folder (You may have to create it first). Use gnome-tweaks and choose the theme;

10 10 Amazing theme! Love, how simple it is, yet also has some character to it.
Also I wonder if, in the future, it would be possible for the user to optionaly change the theme's highlight color i.e. from blue to some other (predefined or not) color.

Great theme, thank you. Just one thing, is shows a black border around the libreoffice "tabbed interface" - any chance you can change that to grey? Keep up to good work and thank you.

9 +I like the color tweaks you made to the dark variant. I agree, much nicer. One issue I'm having is on Arch w/XFCE. If you have app launchers in the panel, the icons drop to a very small size in the panel when this them is applied.

I like the small icons on the panel but I keep my panel at 27 height so they need to be small or else the pulse audio icon will look like crap. I have a xfwm4 window manager for this theme and I have fixed the panel and removed shadows from desktop icons.

Please comment on how this theme (Nextwaita.SCALE) performs on high resolution-screens. I can not test this myself....

Ok I made or tweaked a very nice Xfce WM theme that looks perfect to me. It was originally built by Elbullazul but I have changed just about every aspect of it. I also had to change the color of theme from #404040 to #383838 to make it match just right but it is perfect now and I cant really tell it hurt the looks of the theme any.Screenshot tells all.

Hi, The radio button in GTK3 apps looks pixely, like it has a low resolution. I'm using the standard 1.3 3.30 version (not Low-Res). Otherwise, the theme is magnificent, like it very much :-)

+++++ ".. consequent as possible" I'm voting your theme up for that particular reason. Your themes seems to be among the most well thought and crafted. Now comes the bummer. I have a a screen laptop of 1280x1040. How do i decrease the header bars to smaller, less gap to the buttons? I'd really like to use it with a smaller more compact theme. Thank you for a solid theme.
