Description:

The original Comix Cursors.

X11 mouse theme with a comics feeling.
The package comes with 12 different mouse themes for X11.
6 colors (black, blue, green, orange, red and white)
2 different weights (slim and normal)

From version 0.8 on the cursors are 'multisize', meaning that you don't need to install one theme for each size, but only one theme, and chose the size in the cursor theme selection dialog.
The full installation also includes left-handed themes, you can choose whatever you prefer from the downloads below.

The cursors are named according to the freedesktop.org cursor naming convention, compatibility and hash cursor names are linked. In addition to the original cursor pack left-handed and opaque versions are still available here.
Please read the README and INSTALL files provided in the source package for installation and packaging instructions, as well as some hints on various issues.

Hi,

great cursor collection!

Just one thing:
If I use the comix cursor in KDE 4.1 (not tested elsewhere) there is always the middle-sized bold yellow cursor when hovering the desktop, window decorations and such. Only over the window's content the right cursor (e.g. the little blue one) is shown.
Directly after switching the cursor, the right one is shown everywhere but after restarting KDE, the situation is as described above again.

Any hint what's going on here?

cheers

I had a similar problem. I figured out that it had to do with me using Compiz Fusion. If you are using Compiz, try going to System>Preferences>Advanced Desktop Effects Settings. Then click on the "General Options" button. From there, find the "Cursor theme" field. It should say something like "ComixCursors-Yellow-Regular" etc. Simply change the "Yellow" to whatever color you want.

Hope this works for you.

Hi,

thanks for your advide.
But I am not using Compiz.
I use KDE 4.1 and the KWin they're shipping.

I just put
Xcursor.theme: ComixCursors-Orange-Small-Slim
to my ~/.Xdefaults file but it didn't help either.

I also grepped my home dir for "Regular". No result.

cheers

Any where I can find this full version of the Comix cursors in Windows Version?
I appreciate the help.

Hey there,
yes, ComixCursors is a mouse theme for linux.
You can get some of the Cursors for windows - actually for CursorXP - from firstfooter @ deviantart: http://firstfooter.deviantart.com/
As written above teft is currently workin on converting them to native windows cursors, read the description.

Hey there,

here is a list of nvidia driver options:

ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/1.0-8774/README/appendix-d.html

The "CursorShadow" is off by default, so this will not help you.

Maybe this Option helps with "HWCursor" enabled:
Option "CursorShadowAlpha" "0"

If so, please reply here so others can make use of it.

Have fun.

hi now i changed the settings like this:

Section "Device"
Identifier "nVidia Corporation G72M [Quadro NVS 110M/GeForce Go 7300]"
Driver "nvidia"
Busid "PCI:1:0:0"
Option "AddARGBVisuals" "True"
Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "True"
Option "NoLogo" "True"
Option "CursorShadowAlpha" "0"
EndSection

the cursor is now again dark grey not white...
compiz works fine with the skin...
its the same like not adding the line with hwcursor...

Hey there,

I don't have a solution for your case but some more hints:
- You are using a quadro card, you might try messing with the UBB Option.
- More recent nvidia README: ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/169.07/README/README.txt, chapter 23 is called "Using the X Composite Extension". Relevant Options seem to be "DamageEvents", "DisableGLXRootClipping", ...
- Appendix B is about options.

... sorry, no more help from here ...

I really liked this theme, but I was forced to replace it. The text input bar / curser is hardly useable in e.g. Openoffice. You can hardly recognize it, especiallly during movement. Maybe you can improve it and I'll switch back. Nevertheless: great work!

Report

C

Hey schraubhuber,

I can't accept you switching to another mouse theme :-) . There is an option for the "hair" lines (wich is e.g. the vertical line in the text-input cursor) to have a different color.
The black cursors make use of this, their hair lines are red.
So if this is an option for you please:

- have inkscape and ImageMagick installed
- download the sources
- unpack them and cd into the base folder
- configure the file CONFIG to read: HAIR="#ff0000"
- configure other options in the files CONFIG and index.theme
- issue: "sh install.bash"

and select your custom mouse theme with a red hair color.

Have fun

Hi Jlue,

thanks for the reply. I followed your advices without exactly knowing what I'am doing. So I did't succeed. But: I tried the opaque-black theme, and it satisfies my needs.
Actually I was addicted to your theme. After deinstalling it, I felt very uncomfortable. Now again, I can rest easy ;-)

Keep up the good work!

Hey guys!

I just found out that if you are using the cursors with compiz, you should, to change the cursors, change them in the

"Advanced Desktop Effects Settings"

and change mouse pointers to the ones you have installed!

Hey sensatul,
here's my howto:

You need to install the cursors first:
- Download the right- (or left-) handed rpm "ComixCursors-0.5.0-1.noarch.rpm", save it to your Desktop.
- Right-click it and install it by choosing "open with 'install software'" or similar.
- OR install it from a terminal by typing "rpm -Uv ~/Desktop/ComixCursors-0.5.0-1.noarch.rpm" .
- Open a terminal (choose it fro the start-menu or press ALTT-F2 and type 'xterm') and open the mouse properties dialog by typing "gnome-mouse-properties".
- Choose your preferred theme there. You will have to log out and in again to make full use of it.

If you want to download cursor themes as .tar.bz2 or .tar.gz files, you will have to unpack them, not install them:
- Download "ComixCursors-0.5.0.tar.bz2" to your Desktop.
- Open a terminal and type:
cd ~
mkdir -p .icons
cd .icons
tar -xjvf ~/Desktop/ComixCursors-0.5.0.tar.bz2
- That's for the per-user installation. Choose your preferred theme as above.

For system wide installation you would need to get root first and unpack the files in /usr/share/icons .

Have fun.
