This is a folder background. It just makes nautilus look nicer. The image is 1600x1200 for those people with large resolutions. You can use it by click Edit > Background... and add it from there.

this is a suggestion for GNOME 3 or even earlier: why not have everything but the focused window/menu/object darkened a bit, causing the focused window/menu/object to look "illuminated"? it would be much more focused and visally ordered than the normal way, and would make desktop clutter...
