In case anyone misses them, I ported the cool splash screens that were included with Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala) as Plymouth themes! These are pretty customizable too, so you could replace the Ubuntu logo with your distribution's logo, for example. To get an idea of what it looks like, check
